Former Folsom Lake Earthquakes (now Folsom Lake Surf) player Courtney Freas was able to take advantage of our club now being part of the Surf Nation. The Hawaii Surf SC 02 Girls were coming out to play in Surf Cup and needed a player…word went out to Surf Nation and Courtney hopped on the opportunity. Our players will continue to reap the rewards far into the future as Surf Nation clubs grow in numbers and stature around our country. Courtney’s story follows.
Surf College Cup Showcase 2019
Over the years I’ve attended Surf Cup in the summer and over Thanksgiving break it has brought me closer to my teammates, my family, and given me the opportunity to be seen by college coaches. It also gave me an opportunity to guest play with Hawaii Surf. When I was given the opportunity I beyond was excited because it was going to be my last Surf College Cup in my youth soccer career and I got to experience with a Surf team. I was nervous because I didn’t know the girls or the coach, but that changed when I met them, they were all so welcoming and everyone got along so well. I was also a little nervous because they had played so long together but come to find out they were all from different surf teams. Which didn’t affect the way they played together cause all their styles of soccer were the same. The style they played was very direct but also very defensive which stood out to college coaches. Most of the girls were either commit to colleges such as Sac State or on their way of being committed to play collegiate soccer which is always amazing for a team and a club overall. I believe that the surf organization will be an amazing way to get committed to colleges and it will help Athletes be involved with other teams in Folsom Lake Surf and/or the Surf organization.
