This December, ’09 Girls player, Taylor Fletcher, ’10 Boys player, Kody Wong, ’11 Boys player, Dominick Bergamo represented Folsom Lake Surf at The 2021 West Conference Futsal Finals in Las Vegas, NV as part of The United Futsal’s Championship Cup Series. Folsom Lake Surf & Las Vegas Surf combined forces with Anthem Futsal to form The First Surf/Anthem Futsal Teams to compete in Las Vegas. Teams in attendance included several notable Futsal teams such as De Anza Force Futsal, Mustang SC, Ballistic United, Toque, Dovesport, Tulsa SC, and Colorado Rapids to name a few.

Surf Futsal launched in October of 2020 but was quickly postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Since then, Surf Futsal Director Will Dubay ran Surf Competitive Fall (2021) Futsal Training Program for 2004-2014 boys and girls. Taylor, Kody, and Dominick were among the group of players selected from this program and were able to travel to represent Folsom Surf in Las Vegas.

Surf/Anthem Futsal Teams comprised of players from Folsom Lake Surf, Las Vegas Surf, Anthem Futsal and were led by Anthem Futsal Coach Modesto(Mo) Ruiz and Folsom Lake Futsal Director Will Dubay. The tournament was the first opportunity where these players and their coaches came together as a team, in each age group, and compete against top Futsal Teams. Taylor, Kody, and Dominick adapted well to the new team and coaches, remained positive and persevered through communication challenges to travel uncertainties leading up to the tournament. Overall, these players and parents gained a great experience and built new connections.

Highlights from Players/Parents:

Taylor brought home a Bronze Medal in Division 2 for ’09/’10 Girls team. Congratulations!

Kody and Monica help assemble Futsal Courts on Friday night which ended up being a great team building activity, met great Futsal Families, experienced the thrill of Futsal on ’09/’10 Boys team AND purchased one of the game balls.

Dominick played in BOTH ’09/’10 Boys and ’11/’12 Boys Surf/Anthem Futsal Teams. Regardless of the outcome of the games, Dominick had fun participating and getting the real Futsal experience.

Highlights from Coach Will:

The Western Conference for our CCS futsal was an amazing weekend. Parents and players buzzing around with energy that I have not seen in a while. Even while coaching I heard the excitement and screams of a team that scored even from across the expo facility.

It was a great experience for me and the players. There was great competition and passion that I saw from the players and from myself.

I am excited to move forward and use the tactics and strategies I have mastered throughout using them in gameplay to a training program and develop some truly amazing futsal players.
