Folsom Lake Surf ‘06 Girls Premier Determined to tackle NPL

The Folsom Lake Surf NPL Premier ’06 Girls are ready to get this season started. The pandemic shutdown has felt like an eternity to these girls who live, eat, and breathe soccer. They have maintained their training and fitness throughout this pandemic to stay ‘soccer fit’ and are eagerly awaiting their first tournament in Phoenix. 2020 marks the fifth season this team has committed to playing soccer together, with the core group of girls starting together in 2016 as U11 Ethos. Over the past 5 years these girls have grown from playing as a gold level team to now playing against top teams in the nation. They are coached by Reymond Harris, DOC to Folsom Lake Surf.

The ‘06 Girls put in the hard work and it shows. In past seasons, on top of their regular practice and rigorous game schedule, many on the team committed to weekly extra trainings at The10 (now The Hub), with personal trainers, competitive futsal teams, soccer camps, clinics, and guest playing in various soccer tournaments. The girls have also been involved with Folsom TopSoccer volunteering as “buddies” to teach soccer and encourage children with special needs. For these girls, soccer is life. The last 3 years select players on the ‘06Girls gained recognition from the Olympic Development Program (ODP). In 2019 five girls from the team made the Norther CA State ODP roster and one made the Western Regional ODP roster. Most recently five girls were invited to the NorCal Surf Select Team to participate in upcoming Surf Select Tournaments and an additional three have been identified as reserves for future Surf Select events. These girls are dedicated and passionate about soccer and always pushing to play at a higher level.

Leading up to the Pandemic Shutdown, our 06 Girls were on course to join the National Premier League. They have had great successes in past seasons that made NPL a natural next step. They were invited to San Diego Surf Cup in both 2018 and 2019 playing against top teams in the country. In 2019 they placed first at Union FC Champions Cup and ended the year crowned NorCal Premier Fall League Champions in the State division!

‘You can’t beat someone who never quits.’ While many took time off over the Pandemic Shutdown, these girls never stopped. They were running daily and training independently to stay fit. It takes discipline and love of the sport to train independently for months on end, without a game in sight. But this is what makes this team so strong and unique. They ALL share this dedication and personal drive, and challenge each other to be their best.
