College placement is one of the key priorities of the Surf Soccer organization. Every year, its showcase tournaments and college ID camps attract 1,500 college scouts and coaches. Players also have access to the ScoutingZone application to help develop their digital player portfolios and facilitate communication between student-athletes, scouts, and coaches. Finally, Surf Soccer offer a dedicated team to usher student-athletes through the college admissions process – one tailored, specifically, to soccer players.

The Folsom Lake Surf Soccer Club will adopt this priority and all of these features. The club also has a vision for making it even stronger with mentorships and topical lectures.

Ninety percent of high school players do not make university soccer teams. There are only 8,000 to 9,000 university roster spots from 100,000 high school seniors every year. To play and thrive at the university level it takes a strong, compelling story of commitment, development, athleticism, and academic ability. It also takes a huge amount of organization and time management to be able to make good grades and commit to a rigorous training and playing schedule.

If players have this foundation, then it’s about their stories, i.e., how have these characteristics manifested throughout their high school careers and led them to achieve things within their athletic and academic interests or outside of their comfort zones. The last piece of the puzzle is packaging all of these things together in compelling written and video narrative and gaining visibility among the right groups of people: admissions counselors, scouts, and coaches. This is the puzzle the Folsom Lake Surf seeks to help every player put together – to help kids make the best choices for them and achieve their college placement goals.

To aid in their decision-making and help them grow in critical areas, the Folsom Lake Surf college placement team also has a vision to leverage the local community of professionals, entrepreneurs, and achievers to offer topical lectures on specific practices and experiences to give student athletes realistic previews to help them decide the directions to pursue and how to achieve their goals. Furthermore, the team will invite college scouts, coaches, and admission officers to provide information on the process going forward.

All of these features, we hope, prepare Folsom Lake Surf Soccer players to make informed, thoughtful decisions about their post-secondary paths.
