About Me

  • Coaching motto: “Grit”
  • Coaching strengths: Growth Mindset coupled with goals. The growth mindset improves motivation and self-confidence that have positive impacts not only in sports but educational achievement and career paths. Being fair, open and willing to change while providing a fun but challenging environment to improve technical skills as well as ‘team play’ that results in the love of the game.
  • Training philosophy: My general training philosophy is based on improving the core/basic skills while being adaptive to developments throughout the season. Also, understanding there are ‘team’ activities and ‘team’ building as well as individual performance and skill development.
  • Tournament philosophy: As with my training philosophy, my tournament philosophy is ‘adaptive’ and is based on observation, pre-match understanding of other teams, and reflection – post match review. Tournaments also provide a great opportunity to experience different styles of play, formation and sportsmanship. The latter is important as there may be future team-mates or classmates on opposing teams, the commonality should be the love of the game.
  • Game philosophy: Games are for putting into action newly developed skills, each players should have personal goals to put into action. This is a time for the players to shine and not be micro-managed. I try to prepare the team for self-monitoring on the field by individual players and the team as a whole.
  • What I value from my players: Grit and growth mindset are two things I value in a player. A leader by action, recovery after failure and self-less play on the field is highly regarded. Also, giving the maximum of their abilities at the time.
  • What I value from my parents: Support for the player by allowing them to fail with the intent of learning and improving afterward. Also, understanding that soccer is a wonderful game that can be enjoyed a lifetime – at all levels.
