We are building a spirit of community one step at a time: partnering with local businesses, helping our community, and appreciating our coaches.

BUSINESS | Many thanks to Big Apple Bagels of El Dorado Hills for hosting a Food Fundraiser for the Surf in July. Thank you, Scott, for your generosity and continued support for soccer, youth sports and the Surf. We love the jumbo muffins and breakfast sandwiches!

COMMUNITY | SAVE THE DATE! Juggles for Dimes (J4D) on Saturday, November 6th. This year’s J4D Event is going to be an amazing event for all Surf families. We are expanding the festivities this year to include more food, fun, and games as well as friendly juggling competitions to fundraise for our families and community in need. Stay tuned as more information is unveiled in the coming weeks.

APPRECIATION | A Big thank you to our coaches who continue to encourage, motivate, and challenge our Surf players to be the best they can be. Our coaches are role models and have a huge influence on our children. We often see them as superhuman and unrattled by the craziness of youth sports. They listen to parent complaints. They reliably show up day after day with energy and creativity that bring our kids back for more. Yet, in fact, these coaches are human–managing responsibilities, challenges, and sometimes hardships at home, particularly during COVID. Coaches: Thank you for being so awesome! We want to recognize one of our many great Surf coaches that have gone above and beyond to embody what we strive for through Friends of Surf.

COACH RECOGNITION: NATE ROBERTS

Nate Roberts coaches the 2013 Boys Academy II team. Coach Roberts has been coaching both recreational and competitive soccer with Folsom Soccer Club and the Surf for the last eight years. You can often see Coach Roberts either coaching his team; playing on the field with random and remotely interested kids that just want to kick the ball around; or watching his own kids play the game. He is never shy of spreading words of encouragement or fist bumps to aspiring soccer players, putting smiles on faces of many kids. He’s busy raising his own children who are enthusiastic soccer players themselves yet still has time to volunteer for the club and help the Friends of Surf launch a community vision. Thank you, Nate!
