Alyssa Fong Commits to Vanguard University Women’s Soccer Team
Alyssa Fong has been playing soccer since the age of five. She played her first nine years with El Dorado Hills Soccer Club before switching to Folsom Lake Surf. While at EDHSC she received excellent training from Joe Champion and his crew. Her dad, Paul, was her coach for most of her career until Rino Chimienti took over in Folsom. Alyssa has continued to grow and learn as a player under his guidance.
During the off season from club, Alyssa is a starter for Ponderosa High School. Last spring her team went deep into the playoffs before losing in PK’s. She earned first team all league honors and has been selected as a captain for the upcoming season.
Besides working hard on the field, Alyssa has worked hard off the field. She’s a scholar athlete with a 4.5 GPA. “Keeping my grades up has always been my priority and even though it’s been tough at times to balance both soccer and school, it’s been worth all the hard work as I earned the top academic scholarship from Vanguard.”
It’s always been her dream to play in college and that dream came true when she was offered and accepted a spot on the Vanguard University women’s soccer team. Vanguard is a very competitive NAIA program and Alyssa looks forward to helping the team at either the mid or forward position. “I want to thank all of my coaches, trainers, teammates and fans who have supported me throughout my career. I couldn’t have accomplished my goals without you!! I can’t wait to continue my soccer journey as a Vanguard Lion.”
