Evan Groves plays on our 2008 Boys Premier team, but with all of our players there is much more to their lives than just soccer. When it comes to Evan he spends much of his time giving back to his community by volunteering for Hands 4 Hope – Youth Making a Difference.
Here’s Evan and his awards! He plans to continue his Hands 4 Hope (H4) service throughout his years at Oak Ridge! Evan has been volunteering in the H4H school club since 6th grade (over 100 hours of community service to date), and was a H4H leader (Historian/PR coordinator) for 7th and 8th grade! ☺️
He received two awards this year and here’s what H4H said about each:
1. The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is a very distinguished award recognizing volunteers of all ages for their hours of service in their communities. To get a Presidential award you must earn a minimum amount of hours depending on your age. Evan received a Teen Bronze award, meaning for his age group (11-15 years), he had to earn between 50-74 hours of community service.
2. On top of that, Marina Village was the first club ever in H4H history where each of the club leaders individually achieved the Presidential award, so H4H recognized them for this by calling up the club as a whole. So he was awarded the Presidential Gold award as a leader!
This past year, their big project was raising money for UC Davis Pediatric Hospital! He helped plan, organize and run multiple fundraisers throughout the school year. They raised over $700 which allowed them to pick out and purchase items from the UC Davis Pediatric wish list and then they delivered to the hospital!
We couldn’t be more proud of you Evan! Keep following your passions, giving back to your community and being a role model for all those around you!
