Katie Norlie started her soccer career at the age of five leading the beehive formation from the beginning. During her years playing recreational soccer with Carmichael Soccer Club, her love of the game, competitive streak and talent became obvious. Katie went on to begin her comp career with Capital Valley United and then moved on to play under Coach Mike Canty at American River FC for four years where she acquired her nickname “The Bull”. Katie was one of the youngest players on the team but stood out as a leader and became captain of the team leading her club to many victories.

In 2018, as a sophomore, Katie tried out and made the U19 Sac United team playing for Coach Simon Eccles. These were key years for her with the Surf Cup and Silver Lakes tournaments providing her the opportunity to be seen by college scouts, ultimately resulting in her commitment to Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. For the next 4 years she will be receiving the Presidential Scholarship and playing soccer while pursuing a degree in International Business. With the business opportunities in Chicago, Dominican will be a perfect fit for her.

In addition to Katie’s club play, she was a Freshman starter on her El Camino High School team winning the Eagle Award her first year. As a Sophomore she was named All League. She became captain as a Junior leading the team to a section title. The Lady Eagles won the San Joaquin Section Division IV Championship for the first time since 1985 for El Camino women’s soccer.

Katie is as dedicated academically as she is to her sport. She has maintained a 4.56 GPA and been active in Student Government all four years and is currently balancing distance learning, soccer practice and working 30 hours a week at Emigh Hardware.

This being Katie’s first year with Folsom Surf, along with the crazy circumstance of this pandemic year, she is grateful to have been given the opportunity to play for Coach Rino Chimienti and be a part of a team for her final year of club play.

“Dominican felt like a home away from home. Meeting the girls and Coach Carillo made the decision extremely easy. I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity. I would like to thank my family for always having my back in this process. Go Stars!”
