The ‘08G Elite Blue team has been working hard this season to stay in shape and prepare for playing full field 11v11 soccer for the first time. The team is coached by head coach Michael Fisher and assistant coach Robert Rucker. The core of the team has been together since the comp team first formed playing U9 soccer in 2016. This will be the team’s 5th year together. To prepare for 11v11 this year, the team has grown to a roster size of 14, adding 5 new players who joined the club for the first time.
In the past seasons, the team has enjoyed some great success. The players always push and strive to achieve the best in league play and in tournaments. In 2017 the team placed first in the CUFA tournament in South Lake Tahoe. They won the trophy in dramatic fashion as they took down their opponent in kicks from the mark after overtime. In the same year the team placed first in the Union FC Champions Cup and survived a wasp attack from a nest directly on the goal line! In 2018, they won the Boo Fest, put on by Sac United, dressed up as lifeguards, only a few opponents needed rescue. The same year, the team battled pouring, freezing rain to get to the Gold bracket final of the State Cup. They ended up placing second, but proved they belonged by taking the final game into overtime. Even though the game ended in a loss, the team was incredibly proud to have made it to the final. They were routinely matched against top teams from other clubs and were competing as a second team in the Folsom club.
In 2019, the ‘08G team participated in two away tournaments, CUFA and Stanford Summer Classic. Coach Michael had planned on one away tournament, but the players were able to convince the coaches and parents to participate in an additional away tournament. Some of the team’s best memories have been formed not on the field, but when the team is together between games at tournaments, staying in the same hotel. Players can be persuasive sometimes, and for a good reason.
The ‘08G Elite Blue team is fired up and excited to compete in games once restrictions are lifted and games are allowed. The team has huge potential to continue to win games and tournaments, all while developing players to be the best they can be.
“Our team’s players are dedicated to improving themselves, each other, and the team during this down time. Above everything, our team has fun together while we work hard and play harder!” – Coach Michael
