Program Overview

Through its affiliation with Surf Cup Sports, Folsom Lake Surf players have access to a platform recognized nationally for its college preparation program, network of coaches and scouts, and training curriculum which focuses on long-term player development.

The Folsom Lake Surf Elite teams are the equivalent of the second teams in a competitive program and are for players developing towards Premier. These players are coached by volunteer coaches who hold USSF D or higher licenses, use approaches and resources provided through The Coaching Manual, and engage with the Positive Coaching Alliance and Changing the Game Project – keeping the fun in the game! Elite players also have access to supplemental professional training on a weekly basis.

Elite teams play in the NorCal Premier Soccer organization or California Association of Youth Soccer (Cal North). Should they be interested, Elite players also have access to Surf Soccer’s college preparation program, the Scouting Zone app, and opportunities to play in all Surf Cup Sports events, including the Surf College Cup showcase tournament for college scouts, alongside highly-skilled players from the Surf Soccer’s affiliate programs nationwide.

While not the same as the year-long commitment of a Premier player, it still takes quite a commitment and a lot of effort to play at the Elite level. Players are expected to attend all team practices, games, and tournaments and always perform to the best of their ability.

Fees

The primary fees are for registration and team dues. Team dues will vary based on how many tournaments in which the team participates and how much travel is required, as well as any additional league seasons a team chooses to play. We encourage our teams to play in as many local tournaments as possible to minimize travel-related expenses. Click here for more on fees and our tuition assistance programs.

Volunteer Requirements

It takes a huge amount of volunteer hours to run the club each season.  All families are required to volunteer to serve the club in some capacity.  Families can fulfill their volunteer requirement in one of the following ways:

  • Serving on the Board of Directors (BOD) or on a BOD committee.
  • Serving on a competitive team as a head/asst coach, manager or treasurer.
  • Serving on a recreation team as a head/assistant coach.
  • Completing a minimum of 6 volunteer hours, and 4 hours each for additional registered players.
