Folsom Lake Surf Newsletter | July 2020

Message from Fritz

Dear members,

I would like to thank everyone who has worked exhaustively to get our players back on the field; city officials, our Board of directors, club staff, coaches, volunteers, parents and players have worked so hard to make it all happen. It isn’t perfect, but we will take it!

As I made my way around fields this last week to visit with teams, coaches and parents, I saw great things happening. Most noticeable was the enthusiasm shown by our players to be back with their teams and the look of relief on parents faces seeing their children laughing, training and being outdoors. And the training kits look pretty awesome too.

Many have written to me with questions about the season and the club in general. Sadly, I don’t have all of the answers. I will commit, however, to doing whatever is necessary to keep you informed as we receive information from state and county officials and guidance from the various soccer governing bodies we play under.

While there remains uncertainty about what soccer will look like in the near term, there is no question that we are building something special in the long term. I can feel it as I speak with parents, watch good coaching, and relish the thought of rolling out all of the programs our Surf affiliation gives us access to. Stay tuned!

Thank you again for trusting us to get your children back on the field safely. Please let us know if there is something we can do better and thank you again to all who have made return to play possible.

Gap Year Overseas Leads to Collegiate Career

Gap Year Overseas Leads to Collegiate Career
As many of you are aware, the upcoming college season will, unfortunately, be impacted by Covid-19; however, we want to share an exciting alternative for players overseas for our older players who are considering playing collegiately.

Our partner International Development Academy (IDA), recently sat down with Mac Naggar, former Match Fit Academy player, to discuss how his gap year in the UK positively impacted his playing opportunities in the United States. Mac had a dream of playing D1 soccer. He used a planned gap year to fine-tune his skills and is now playing for Iona College.

A semester abroad, coupled with daily exposure to semi-professional football in Europe, is an excellent opportunity for our Surf alumni. Through IDA, players will spend the Fall on the field, gaining invaluable experience that they will be able to transition into a collegiate career.
